My first entry in my very own blog this year will not talk about me. But I want to focus on something more important than you and I. I would like to talk about something that bother me from Christmas eve till now.
As respond to the article ‘Siapa Yahudi, Siapa Islam’ (Who is Jew, Who is Muslim) from our very on corrupted Utusan press, I felt very unsatisfied that the writer fail to share his knowledge about Islam history, and accuse our world is weak. Who ever wrote that article is blind and failed to see the reality too.
To my experience involved with Ministry of Science, Technology & Innovation (MOSTI) back in 2007, we had put a wonderful and inspiring campaign through our exhibition called ‘Scientific Excellent in Islamic Civilization’. Going through the beautiful existent of technology created by our very own Muslim scholars and artists, we have also build magnificent technology, culture and arts.
But because of our very own local media was too focused on politics and entertainment such as spending RM5,000,000 million ringgit on Mawi & Ekin’s wedding, the media FAIL to promote the knowledge that once Islam had put a great mark. If Mawi can be known to the teenagers, why can’t Yaqub ibn Tariq, al-Kwarizmi, al-Battani, al-Farghani, al-Sufi, al-Biruni, al-Tusi and Omar Khayyam? Who is Salahudin? Who is Ibnu Batutta? Laksamana Cheng Ho? Who are they? They are the world of Islam greatest scholars; they are the one who built pin-hole camera, astronomers who had created of sundial, they had contributed knowledge in Maths, they had contributed towards the medical industry through surgery methods, they are the greatest explorers and warriors that had been respected in that era, and our knowledge had been contribute to people in the world. They don’t have to be Islamic schollars from the middle east. We have muslim schollars from the land of China too. But, where is the responsible of the media to help promote the knowledge? Hardly known any! If Datuk Seri Jamaludin Jarjis would not initiate this prestigious exhibition, I myself would not be proud to know that our Muslim world has been contributing so much. Even one of my biggest inspirations in typography and design is Mehdi Saeedi who is from Iran.
